Overcrowded households are those that do not meet the following requirements:
1. No more than two persons per bedroom
2. Children aged <5 years of different sexes may reasonably share a bedroom
3. Children aged ≥5 years of the opposite sex should have separate bedrooms
4. Children aged <18 years and the same sex may reasonably share a bedroom
5. Single household members aged >18 years should have a separate bedroom, as should parents or couples
Sharing the same bathroom, bed linen, and clothes can spread disease.
Overcrowded housing may also affect the privacy of teenagers, which can result in mental health issues.
