The ABCD2 score is a clinical tool used to predict the risk of stroke following a transient ischemic attack (TIA).
- Age: ≥ 60 years (1 point)
- Blood Pressure: ≥ 140/90 mmHg at initial evaluation (1 point)
- Clinical Features: Unilateral weakness (2 points), Speech disturbance without weakness (1 point)
- Duration: ≥ 60 minutes (2 points), 10-59 minutes (1 point)
- Diabetes: Presence of diabetes (1 point)
The total score ranges from 0 to 7, with higher scores indicating a greater risk of stroke. Patients with higher ABCD2 scores may be at sufficient risk to warrant hospital admission and urgent evaluation, whereas those with lower scores might be managed in an outpatient setting.
